RED CLAY

-Introduce yourself; give a little background about yourself and what you do?

My name is Red Clay, Im a hip hop artist out of Charlotte, NC originally from San Francisco, CA. I am one half of the group Good Money with Mr. West out of Norfolk, VA. Between the 2 of us we have been signed to 3 deals and have recently started our own label, Gorilla Gripp Entertainment. We’ve recently joined forces with former Roc-a-fella R&B star, Rell and Right Arm Music Group. We have just released my solo mixtape, LHE: The Anastasia Articles and my EP, Red Clay is Jimmy Jump. Both available on www.goodmoneygorillas.com and www.datpiff.com

-What do feels separates you from others in your field?

I feel that there are few hip hop artist who can be lyrical and commercial at the same time. I feel I have that trait as well as in depth social commentary and story telling abilities that make me a more well rounded MC than most of my counterparts . I have been to jail and to college ; I’ve done a lot of good and a lot of bad things, so my music as a unique perspective to it.

-How does society and its struggles act you and others I your field?

I feel hip hop is a more accurate form of news, so society and its struggles have a profound effect on myself and others. All hip hop expresses this in some form, even the everyday club record you hear on the radio.

-Where do you see the current state of hip hop at in 5 years?

I see hip hop definitely growing and expanding to overlap various genres of music. I also seeing getting back to lyrics, which is something I am looking forward to

-What role does family and friends play in your career?

Family and friends are very essential in everything I do. My family provided me with the morals and knowledge of life I have today. My friends and I have experience a lot of different things together which comes out in my art as well as the way I live my life.

-What do you thinks separates winners from losers?

Determination and hard work

-What advice can you give others in your field that you learned thru trial and error?

never let anybody tell you that you cant do something, and keep pushing

-Do you have any political views since everyone in today’s society does?

I don’t align myself with any political party. Im more liberal with social views and tad conservative on finance issues.

-How do you feel about the rumors about Obama that’s rampant on the Intertnet?

Rumors are rumors..I believe none of what I hear, a little of what I read and half of what I see

-Do you have any religious views? Are you religious?

I would not say that I am religious, however I do believe in a higher power whom I call God. Im more of a spiritual person.

-What are some of your influences in your life?

my mother, my children, life

-Switching to a serious subject, what is you view on drugs? Users, Abusers, Pushers?

I feel that marijuana should be decriminalized at the minimum. With other drugs, I first feel that sentencing for drugs should be even across the board with respect cocaine/crack. I understand why people feel the need to do drugs and why people feel the need to sell them. I have been on both sides of the fence. I also see what certain drugs do to people, families and communities..so I have mixed feelings on this subject.

-What can the public look for from you in the future?

We just released my EP, Red Clay is Jimmy Jump, so we will be promoting that for a minute and releasing a single or two to radio. We are also working on the Good Money mixtape, “He’s the Smoker, I’m the Drinker” as well as the Good Money Debut album, “The Grind” We are currently in talks with distribution companies regarding the album. Also Im thinking about recording a full lenth solo album. Look for us in a city near you and log on to www.goodmoneygorillas.com www.ronroyal.com and www.rightarmmusicgroup.com

Anything you want to say before this interview is over

I just want to thank you for this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and hope everyone who likes good music supports it. I do this not just for me or my family but all the single mothers who go to school during the day and strip at night, for all the fathers taking penitentiary chances to feed the household. I also want to shout out my bro, Mr. West and my other bro, Crew Pick who I have started this journey with. A special shout to my big bros Nate Pitts and Rell who have been instrumental parts of this Gorilla Gripp / Right Arm movement.
