SEAN MILLER - real musik

-Introduce yourself; give a little background about yourself and what you do?
My name is Sean Miller, known as “sean IS…” and “seanISrael” on the music side of things. I’m an emcee and visual artist originally from Norfolk, Virginia, currently residing in Woodbridge in Northern Virginia. I am a full-time Director of Marketer as well as a Minister in Training. Let’s just say that I wear a lot of hats.

-What do feels separates you from others in your field?
Well, I sort of label myself as a visual artist who happens to rap. There’s a level of imagery that I try to get across to those who listen to my music. People tend to know me for one or the other but I want them to understand the unified effort.  I’m a bit different from a lot of emcees in that I approach my music from a perspective that I need to be able to look myself in the mirror after I make it, even at the expense of commercial appeal. My art is just that…art.

-How does society and its struggles act you and others I your field?
The happenings in society affect me personally and artistically. What goes on around artists serves as inspiration for material, rather positive or negative. I believe that most of us reflect what we know. That’s not always the case, but something in society prompted an emcee to say what he or she said. I know where I am from and where I currently am, so that is reflected in my music and hopefully is relatable to listeners.

-Where do you see the current state of hip hop at in 5 years?
I forsee more of the same. Hip-Hop has been experiencing an imbalance on the industry side of things for quite some time. However, I see the pulse of the game resting in the hands of the artists who are still unsigned and making uncompromised music from the heart. Trust me, there are still cats who have maintained their artistic integrity in spite of scoring a recording contract, but I see reality through those who are still at home writing like their life depended on it. Those are the voices of impact, even if large audiences don’t regularly hear them.

-What role does family and friends play in your career?
Family and friends are the support systems. When the CDs aren’t moving, and the shows aren’t coming in the way I would like them to, I just need to know that someone is in my corner. I can trust in their love and willingness to give constructive criticism.

-What do you thinks separates winners from losers?
That depends on what the definitions of winners and losers are. I personally think that if I can make music and feel confident in what I’m doing, then I am a winner. Many people consider losers to be those who don’t get commercial and financial success from what they do.

Knowing who the target audience is vital in the life of an artist. We have to know who can relate to and enjoy our music, and how to get it in their hands. Sometimes this is not profitable but it helps to build a loyal following.

-What advice can you give others in your field that you learned thru trial and error?
Here are a few nuggets I have learned: Persistence is key. Doing exciting live shows helps to build a fan base. Sound quality can make or break a project. Building relationships is more effective that advertising.

-Do you have any political views since everyone in today’s society does?
I’m not that heavy into politics but view voting as an important way to exercise our rights. If voting is not possible, I believe that there are many other ways to be active in the community.

-How do you feel about the rumors about Obama that’s rampant on the Intertnet?
It bugs me sometimes, but it’s a part of the political game. It seems to be magnified to some degree. I think it’s advantageous that we hope that our President, whoever it is, is successful because in some ways if he is, then the people are.

-Do you have any religious views? Are you religious?
I’m a Christian with a simple view. “I suck. God doesn’t.”

-What are some of your influences in your life?
Some of my influences include my failures because they ultimately led to some victories as I’ve grown. Even the things I haven’t conquered give me something to shoot for. Of course, I dig dope Hip-Hop and Visual Artists from various times.

-Switching to a serious subject, what is you view on drugs? Users, Abusers, Pushers?
Well, I consider drugs to be a means of escape. Escapism is something that I can relate to as I have done things in my life to get away from stress and pain. However, I think that users, abusers, and pushers are all able to find something bigger in life through God. I won’t cast judgment because that’s not my place. However, with every second we are given, there’s an opportunity to grow.

-What can the public look for from you in the future?
Shoot, whatever God has planned. Lord willing, people will hear new music that shows my heart for the culture, something that they can vibe with. Hopefully, I’ll be back on the gallery side of things with Fine Arts with some urban themed works. I just plan on progressing and being positive while bringing others along for the journey.

-Introduce yourself; give a little background about yourself and what you do?

Been djing since the age of 14 really took it serious about 5 years ago and decided to make it my career besides djing i also produce getting into writing and sound engineering.

-What do feels separates you from others in your field?

good question what separates me from other djs is my knowledge and love for music i grew with a dad who collects music so i was introduce to alot of genres of music plus being from panama where we import alot different genres and cultural music my skills come natural also to me djing is an art form and way of life

-How does society and its struggles act you and others I your field?

well the way things are going now days society and its struggles play a major part in alot of djs specially for djs who are used to traveling alot of the gigs we are use to getting and money s cut short since people dont have the money to have fun like they use to alot of people work extra hour leaving them no time to come and rock with us so promoters are force to hire local djs and cheaper djs so its all understandable coming from where im from

-Where do you see the current state of hip hop at in 5 years?

in 5 years i see hip hop in a better state more substance in the music more messages positive messages kind of how it use to be back in the days if you wasnt saying something that we can relate to we not listening now days there is alot of artists who really dont have nothing to say so as hip hop move forward i see alot of new artists coming up with a message and something positive for the people i believe hip hop fans are gonna demand more out the artists and if they dont deliver then thats the end -What role does family and friends play in your career?
wowow those are my main supporters my pops is my dude he loves to see me dj my mom she is more into church but she respects what i do and she prays i do even better so is all support from all angles i got a tight group of friends who support me and keep me positive then my kids they just understand what i do and they love me for that they are my motivation family and friends are important in this business cause you meet so many new people day in and day out that if you dont keep a family and friends you might loose a lot not every one you meet means well you know what i mean so family and friends keep you motivated and positive

-What do you thinks separates winners from losers?

a winner will practice and train harder than a looser a looser gives up as soon as they lose a winner can lose and then go back and practice or train harder for the next competition thats a winners mentality "i lost okay now i gotta come back harder so into the lab i go" a winner never gives up losers do give up

-What advice can you give others in your field that you learned thru trial and error?

if you really love something do it and do it from the heart even if you aint the best out there as long as you doing it for you cause you love it others will love you for that dont let no one tell you that cant do something cause thats a lie before obama became president i bet he had alot of people who said you crazy a black man will never be president of this great nation and laughed in his face or behind his back now look at him running one of the greatest nation in the world

-Do you have any political views since everyone in today’s society does?

honest truth im not into politics as much as i should just for the simple fact i dont like to be lie to but i believe obama means well he just need better staff around him you know what i mean is like his michael jordan and his whole team sucks thats my opinion jordan did what he did cause he had great players around him obama wants to bring the country back but with the staff he got that wont happen anytime soon maybe next turn if he gets the white house again

-How do you feel about the rumors about Obama that’s rampant on the Intertnet?

rumors are rumors man like we as the people need to support our president if he means well why not support him we gotta remember he got the country handed to him already all mess up so it wont take 2 or 3 months to fix everything you know what i mean so let rumors be rumors and lets concentrate on doing our part as the people so this country can go back to being a super power -Do you have any religious views? Are you religious?
yeah i do i believe in god ,jah, allah whatever you called i believe in the higher power i know there is evil and good i love good dislike evil dont really like talking about religion cause i know how sensitive the subject is but i believe in a higher power

-What are some of your influences in your life?

as far as djs dj red alert, dj jazzy jeff ,my dad, i can name a few those guys really did it is not lke 2day we got laptops and software those guys really fucking dj like flip records faster than any one out there kept a party going and rocking with records thats hard man i had to do it and im no where close to what they did man as far as life my uncle ali who passed away he was a mentor to me when it came to real life my mom as well she try her best to show me the right paths my dad he allways been a great man i got alot of people who influenced me growing up we a big family so every one dropped their grain of sand on my head

-Switching to a serious subject, what is you view on drugs? Users, Abusers, Pushers?

drugs will never go away thats the honest truth as much as the government tries to stop and help those who do drugs they cant drugs are a part of the world drugs been around since jesus days so there is nothing we really can do to stop those who used sell it and abuse it i do believe is time to legalise marijuana i think legalising marijuana and taxing it the economy well get a lil better im not saying is the solution but it will be money for the government to fund better jobs out of taxing a drug alot of people use the drug more than 20 million people are marijuana users so why not tax it just like they did alcohol during the great depression

-What can the public look for from you in the future?

im working on alot of projects as we speak im working on a documentary about hip hop in the city of worcester ma there is alot of talent in central mass im also working on production alot of production been my main focus for the pass months you can keep your ears open alot of good material coming out soon
